Winter walks

Ouch! There was a chill in the air over the weekend; we took these pictures after riding Segway’s in Battersea Park, my toes and fingers were frozen!
To be fair there was a burst of Winter Sun in the morning keeping our backs toasty for a walk. I do love a weekend stroll around London, I love taking my dog to new areas for him to play around in, to my delight this park was one of the most dog friendly areas I’ve ever come across!
Within the beautiful surroundings there were all sorts of activities around, Segway’s for starters, which had me all over the pathways at slower then granny speed (while the rest of my group sped off at 12mph engaging in racing games and obstacle courses!) I wore wedge trainers that were highly inappropriate for this sport; balance way key to controlling the Segway my wedged heel didn’t allow me to keep steady – hence why I was left behind in the races. Its safe to say lesson learnt and I will always read recommendations prior to signing up to sports!
It was a lovely experience once I managed to gain a wee bit of confidence and a great outdoor activity. I work in such a busy environment on a daily basis, sometimes a morning in a park actually feels like a mini holiday esp with the views we were looking out on!
I loved the red ensemble I wore recently so much I tried it with Olive. It is not as striking, but the flow of colours were really complimented by the surroundings.

Red

Time to whip out the thermals, London is getting rather icy. Soon after these pictures were taken my nose colour matched my ensemble! With the festive season well underway in London I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and wear Santa’s favourite. Red has been flying around the high street recently and seeing it inspired me to give colour blocking ago, I do feel a little ‘Virgin airhostessy’ but I love it. Pairing the shirt and skirt is my winter take on co-ordinates. Of course in true Mitika style I had to pair it with some animal print and comfy block heel boots to walk around town in.

New season, new me!

I’m excited for Autumn to settle in, let’s face it we said bye to Summer a little while ago! I’m ready for a new wardrobe palette, leafy hues and layering. This ox blood skirt is one of my favourite fall colours, it works well with the three basics (black, white & grey) It’s fluty shape is one that compliments my figure, skims my hips a little, flairs out, and sits a couple of inches above my knees. I teamed it with my new winter booties, I have never been too grunge but the gun metal hardware adds a little roughness to essentially a Chelsea boot in disguise! To round it off my beautiful little wool hat sits just right over my freshly cut hair; I enjoyed my long locks but I felt like I was ready for a drastic change! New season, new me!

Animal instincts

When driving towards Nerja on the south coast of Spain I caught a glimpse of street art along the motorway; like any city Malaga has its fair share of graffiti, but this piece definitely stood out.
It just so happened I was in a leo print dress; I have warned you about my animal print obsession (here) excuse the beach hair, we were not planning on shooting; but this art was too amazing to pass by.

Earth Tones

I love living in London, a city rich in culture and creative arts for everyone to soak in. Tate Modern is an amazing space promoting the enjoyment of modern and contemporary art. The Henrie Matisse exhibition was one that caught my eye, it has already influenced many in the city and one of my favourite takes on his style was the Liberties shop window. Our department stores are renowned for their attention to window display details. Liberties did not fail to impress, a great visual of creativity, colour and imagination.
The exhibition was a beautiful insight into Matisse’ ‘carving into colour’ series. Pages of his sketchbooks were laid out, details from his archives displayed and a stunning collection framed to see up close.
I was first introduced to his work in Primary school, my memory is crystal clear; the day we had to recreate one of his most iconic pieces ‘The Snail’ in 1994, even back then art came to me naturally and creating Matisse inspired pieces felt effortless. His use of bold colour blocks, stylised shapes, compositions and layered scale boast an innovative mind-set like no other.
Unfortunately photography inside the exhibition was prohibited, all the more reason to visit and see an amazing slice of modern art for yourself; view with an open mind and view from a child’s perspective, view to question every placement, colour choice and detail. Its art like you have never seen before.

For walking around town I picked easy wears; comfy boots, plain black t and my new love a beautiful zebra patterned skirt. I have always had a soft spot for animal prints, cant go wrong with teaming it all up with gold accessories; perfect match if you ask me, I absolutely love them!
