LBD

I’m sitting here with a little grin on my face, I’m just in a good place, mentally, work wise and with all my relationships. I genuinely love this blogs reach, I’m very happy with the direction it is going in and I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people through it. (I know I have a fair few emails to reply to, I promise I’ll do that soon!)
I am adamant to make this blog my free space, my area to offload creativity and document things to be proud of. I feel too often every time I look at blogs they push ‘new new new’ ‘buy buy buy’ ‘look at me look at me look at me’
I know I fall into that trap because the whole concept behind a blog is to remain current. But in all honesty I don’t want to make someone envy me, I don’t want people to think this life I live is perfect. I am your everyday joe. I don’t post daily, because some days Gurpreet and I are too busy with our 9-5’s, gym and family time to even pick up the camera. I don’t post new things all the time, purely because I don’t buy new things all the time, I’d love to showcase new seasons like magazines do, but I’m a one man band. I put energy and time into these shoots and posts because it’s what keeps me happy.
And when I’m happy we shoot magic pictures like the ones I’m posting. On this day we were driving around London and I loved the grey slate from a shoot we did earlier this month, Gurpreet and I decided to jump out and capture the look I was wearing. A simple little black dress does the job for many occasions. Like many items in my wardrobe it compliments my shape.
I think the main two key pointers to remember when buying clothes are:
-does it flatter your body shape?
–does the item have longevity in your wardrobe, can you wear it more than once and over different seasons?
If it ticks those two, I personally think it’s a winner. As you can see in my last couple of posts I do love a bodycon fit, I’m lucky enough to have genetics that favour the current ’butt trend’ but this dress was one I picked up in Milan earlier this year, I saw it in Zara and even though I didn’t need it, I knew it would be a staple in my wardrobe falling under the category ‘family appropriate and bum hiding’
I am so happy with the fit, this length skims my legs at the point they look slimmest, the waistline seam is slightly lower than usual so it disguises the hip waist ratio I have. This doesn’t draw too much attention to my obvious pear shape and looks elegant. Its like a win win situation going on with this dress!

clouds + mountains + waterfalls

We are so so lucky to be living in a city where art and creativity is at our finger tips. I believe to express yourself through art is a gift, I connect with so many people through visuals and creativity before even meeting them in person.
Gurpreet isn’t a self confessed art buff, but thats why I enjoy his company, his outlook on many things in life is much more thought out and logical then mine; he always has an alternative view on things and this is why we click so well.
Luckily we managed to make a trip to Sadie Coles HQ to see the amazing clouds + mountains + waterfalls exhibition by Ugo Rondinone.
Maybe its psychological but just seeing a room filled with vibrant colours felt extremely uplifting. It was a beautiful expressive collection of sculptures and painting depicting the clouds, mountains and waterfalls.
Even though I focus on fashion 80% of the time, different art forms play a huge part in my design process especially when conducting the initial research for a project.
It’s like breath of fresh air to look at other creative fields when working on your own.
We will be making a trip to the Tate Modern soon, I am so excited to see the Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama. I’d love to know if you have any Museum / Exhibition recommendations. suritimestwo@gmail.com Email me them : )

As mentioned in the last post, a midi does not have to be evening wear, chucks, a little layering and a bowler hat to top it off make it a very daytime look. Trust me, everyone needs a midi in their wardrobe!

Parker Season

A little while back Gurpreet and I spread our wings and moved into our own home. Only then did I realise the extent of material items I owned (a big reality check for me!) I was shocked by the amount of items we both had and also made a pledge to myself and our bank account to be a little wiser with my purchases.
After all fashion is a cycle it all comes back into the ‘trends’ it all depends how you style it.
This parker was one of my first ‘extravagant’ purchase when I was in my teenage years (many moons ago) It was £65 from River Island, I still remember the day I bought it, I'd never spent that much money on a single item of clothing before so it was cherished for many years and for good reason too, parkers make a comeback every winter season. It’s a timeless item and khaki is a great colour for the fall months.
The midi dress is from Zara and is also a pretty nifty and versatile item, worn with heels and simple accessories it can be an elegant fuss free outfit for a night out, match it with converse and a leather jacket and et voila a daytime casual look that’s easy to throw on.
Obviously body con midi’s are not to everyones taste but you can find one that suits your figure, the length is flattering to many body shapes.
I have teamed up with Ottoman Hands to offer you 15% off any of the items online, all you have to do is use the discount code 15MITIKA15 I’d love to see how you style your pieces!

Fall sunshine

I was having the type of day you want to throw on whatever you can, go outside and make the most of the beautiful fall sunshine. The British Museum is a sure good pit stop in London, we had a good wander around the ancient Egyptian exhibitions, a must see if you haven’t already.

Back to black

Wardrobe rehab is in full effect, all the items I am wearing in this post are basics that have been sitting in my closet for a fair few months, years even!
Im a self confessed animal print fiend, I bought the bag in 2012 it was rather pricey as it is leather and pony skin but I saw it as a staple piece, I still see leopard print make an appearance in the stores every autumn. So in my opinion a leopard print bag is definitely a keeper! The matching shoe combo might not be for everyone, but hey it works for me! Worn together or separately the leopard print adds colour to an otherwise plain look.
When I asses the clothes in my closet the realisation of black is timeless is becoming more apparent. Colours and prints are seasonal but black, black has no expiry date, want to look smart? Black is your colour, want to look sexy? A little black dress is your answer, want to look chic? Mix a block colour with black and bingo. I hate to admit it, but going back to black is the first rule I'm sticking to.

A couple of items that are new to my gold pot are these pieces from the Ottoman Hands AW collection. You all know I love my gold and how i like to stack it, the more the merrier in my case. Starting with the layered tear drop necklace, it sits beautifully above my Arabic name plate I picked up when I was working in Dubai in 2010. And their signature three stone ring has been reworked into a smaller version, I think this next week I might break down the pieces I have from the new collection and show you the deign features I love the most.
For now, enjoy the rest of the weekend and check back in with me in two days, I have some exciting news to share with you :)
