Black ink - my obsession

DVF #youbeyou campaign

If you have been following my journey you will know this site started out under the domain name mitikasillustrations.com Whilst working in fashion I enjoyed sketching here and there, I managed to post a view times about art but ‘outfit of the day’ posts quickly took over and ended up being my main blog content.
It didn’t mean I stopped the art, I just didn’t post about it. Recently my sketching has turned from a hobby / talent into an obsession (a healthy one) I literally cannot put my pen down. I am forever sketching fashion shows, editorials, campaigns and lookbooks. I feel like I can finally post a style true to me. Before I would seek inspiration from other artists, even though I was fully able to draw I almost looked out for guidance to see what everyone else was producing. Since my obsession started in August last year I have developed a style I can run with, a style that doesn’t require referencing other artists, it allows me to create art wherever I am (in bed, on the train, at work, in the park; literally anywhere!) I can sit and draw quickly, under time pressure with minimal equipment and still be confident about the work I am producing.
For me that’s a personal achievement, I think before I would feel the need to have every type of media around me, stacks of tear sheets for inspiration and I would wait for ‘the perfect working environment’. My excuses held me back, it stopped my hobby becoming an obsession.
So here it is, I proudly present to you a selection of my art, most of these can be seen over on my Instagram page.

Camel and khaki

Camel and khaki create the perfect pallet of earthy neutrals. This waterfall camel coat is luxuriously soft and very warm, allowing me to avoid layering up too much – big bonus as I usually end up wearing 3 layers when it starts to get chilly! I teamed it with a basic shape midi dress, I love midi’s like this because you can dress them up easily or wear with minimal accessories – a very versatile garment and can be worn in all seasons.
At the moment I am currently dog sitting, sorting through my art work and finalising things to do in Lisbon, outside my window it’s just started to snow in London and I’m loving it. (I’m sure I will take that back if it is still snowing on Monday morning) but for now, I’m ready to kick back, relax and enjoy a weekend doing everything I love.

Leather, stripes and neon lights.

Its official, the chill is definitely settling in! Three quarter length sleeves and leather fit the bill for the occasional outings in London. Strips are my fail-safe, prints and patterns are so temperamental in fashion, but the stripe has a longevity that makes it an ideal fall wardrobe staple. What do you all have planned for this bank holiday weekend? My to do list consists of; drawing, pinning (check my boards out) and possibly poking my head around Notting hill carnival!
